Manual - Best practices for childcare workers

Aisling Discoveries Child and Family Centre, working with community stakeholders, developed a manual on best practices for childcare professionals who are often the first point of contact for children who witness or experience domestic violence.

The objective was to raise awareness and better prepare workers to respond to women abuse. Information was circulated to staff in 40 childcare centres.

Manual (English and Korean): Domestic violence prevention
The Korean Canadian Women's Association (KCWA) led this project to educate religious leaders in the Korean community about domestic violence, and to equip them with resources to assist their parishioners. The project included the development of a resource manual, available in English and Korean, with information on woman, sexual, child, and elder abuse, Canadian family law, and the Canadian court system.

Service Delivery Manual: How to set up temporary emergency housing service for rural women fleeing abuse

The YWCA Women's Centre, Hailburton County, led this project to develop a unique, rural-specific shelter design for abused women.

YWCA Haliburton Emergency Rural Safespace (HERS) uses a rural approach to provide a financially stable safe space for occasional use.

A service delivery manual was created containing information on how to develop temporary emergency housing services for abused women in rural communities.

Program Manual - Teen esteem for boys: Focus group results and recommendations
The local Stop Violence Against Women Coordinating Committee received funding to strengthen service coordination in Perth County. The project included outreach to local health agencies and schools to increase service coordination and broaden committee membership. A self-esteem program for teenage boys was piloted in local schools.

Report and Program Design for adolescent girls

The London Abused Women's Centre led this project to assess the need for support, advocacy, safety planning and counselling services for abused teen girls.

The project focused on girls aged 12 to 15 who have been, or are currently, subject to abuse by a peer or partner. The project included focus groups, workshops, training for educators and service professionals, as well as the development of a program design for adolescent girls.

Renfrew County Partner Assault Protocol
The South Riverdale Community Health Centre led this project to evaluate existing domestic violence protocols in community agencies. The project included protocol revisions, agency training and education to raise awareness of domestic violence in families with young children.

Domestic and Sexual Violence Protocols - Hastings and Prince Edward counties

The Three Oaks Foundation led this project to develop and launch Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Protocols with 60 service providers in the counties of Hastings and Prince Edward.

Full-day training sessions were held for participating service providers to help increase victim safety through information sharing. Topics included the Domestic Violence Protocol, risk assessment and safety planning.

Woman Abuse Protocol - Peel Region

The Peel Committee Against Woman Abuse, a program of the Social Planning Council of Peel, partnered with community agencies to update the Woman Abuse Protocol to increase effectiveness, coordination and collaboration between protocol partners.

DVD and Public Service Announcements: Don't Keep It a Secret

The Waterloo Regional Police Service partnered with Waterloo-area community agencies to develop a domestic violence public education and awareness campaign.

A DVD, posters, community resource manual and nine 30-second public service announcements were produced to raise awareness of the impact of domestic violence on pre-pubescent children, adolescents, seniors, gays and lesbians, and their families.

Greater Sudbury Police Service - Preventing Elder Abuse

The Greater Sudbury Police Service led this project to increase awareness and develop community strategies to help prevent elder abuse.

Immigrant Women Services Ottawa led this train-the-trainer project with eight domestic violence service professionals and survivors/volunteers to develop an education and training program for service providers.

Safety Audit Report - For Haldimand-Norfolk and other communities

Haldimand-Norfolk Women's Services partnered with cross-sector agencies to complete a safety audit based on the model used by Windsor's Domestic Violence Review Committee. A report was completed containing a number of recommendations relevant to other communities.

Emergency cards and other resources for women experiencing domestic violence

The York Region Violence Against Women (VAW) Coordinating Committee revised an existing protocol to better coordinate services for victims of domestic violence in York region.

A brochure and executive summary of the protocol were developed to increase awareness of local services.

A small card was developed for female victims of domestic violence containing emergency information in six languages (English, Chinese, Italian, Russian, Farsi and Punjabi).
