McGuinty Government Calls For Award Nominations

Ontario is calling for nominations for awards that honour Ontarians who help and support victims of crime.

Nominations for the Attorney General's Victim Services Awards of Distinction will be accepted from now until January 21, 2011.

The awards will recognize excellence and exceptional achievement in any of the following categories:

  • Victims and other individuals personally impacted by crime who have raised the profile of victims' issues in the province
  • Service providers who deliver exceptional services to victims of crime
  • Field practitioners who develop and implement innovative victim service programs and projects
  • Volunteers who give their time and personal resources to help victims
  • Youth who dedicate time and effort to support victims in their communities.

Quick Facts

  • Individuals and groups in Ontario may be nominated by any person or organization in the province.
  • Nominations will be reviewed by a selection panel consisting of members of the victim services community, staff from the Ministry of the Attorney General and members of the Office for Victims of Crime.
  • The awards program was established in 2007. It recognizes outstanding accomplishments and ensures that successes of exemplary individuals and organizations are shared across the province.
  • December 6 marks National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada.
