New Chair Appointed To The Human Rights Legal Support Centre

Patrick Case has been appointed chair of the board of directors of Ontario's Human Rights Legal Support Centre.

Case brings a wealth of human rights experience to the post. He is the current director of the University of Guelph's Human Rights and Equity Office, and has been a commissioner with Ontario's Human Rights Commission since November 2006. Case was a former chair of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation as well as co-chair of the Equality Rights Panel of the Court Challenges Program of Canada. He has also served as a family law staff lawyer at Parkdale Community Legal Services and as school trustee with the Toronto Board of Education.

Since 1999, Case has served on the senior management team as a member of the President's Executive Council at the University of Guelph while also managing several university-wide equity programs. He was also responsible for budget administration with the Toronto Board of Education's Equal Opportunity Office and is a former chair of its Business Administration Committee.

Case replaces Raj Anand, who has served as chair since March 2008. Anand oversaw the implementation of the Legal Support Centre, which opened in June 2008. Under his leadership, the centre provided information and advice to more than 20,000 Ontarians in its first year of operation.

The Human Rights Legal Support Centre offers human rights legal services to Ontarians who believe they have experienced discrimination. The centre provides a range of services from assistance in filing an application at the Human Rights Tribunal to legal representation on human rights applications.
