McGuinty Government Supports Programs To Promote Healing

Six Nations victims of sexual violence now have access to improved services that will help them through the healing process.

With support from the Aboriginal Victims Support Grant Program, Ganohkwasra Family Assault Support Services in Brant has:

• Provided individual support counseling to male and female victims of sexual violence
• Developed and distributed sexual assault brochures
• Hosted relevant community presentations, a march against sexual violence and a four-day therapeutic retreat for both men and women
• Begun to organize a Male Sexual Abuse Survivor Conference.

Quick Facts

• Ganohkwasra Family Assault Support Services received $180,000 from the Aboriginal Victims Support Grant Program.
• Two million dollars has been awarded to 20 projects that support victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, hate crimes and historic abuse in remote areas of the province.
• Ontario is developing an Aboriginal Justice Strategy with a vision to provide equitable, coordinated, effective and responsive criminal justice services to all Aboriginal men, women, children and youth in Ontario.
