Funds To Support Owen Sound and Grey County Police

Helping Local Police Boost Public Safety

The Owen Sound Police Service and the Grey County OPP will soon have new video equipment and interview rooms to better serve their communities.

The Owen Sound Police Service will improve their surveillance and community protection ability using a new video and GPS system. The Grey County OPP will use new interview rooms to provide victims and witnesses with greater privacy.

Under Ontario's Civil Remedies Act, the Attorney General is taking money out of the hands of wrongdoers and using it to support victims and prevent unlawful activity.

Quick Facts

• The Owen Sound Police Service is receiving $44,219.90 for video transmitters and receivers through the Civil Remedies Grant Program.
• The Grey County OPP is receiving $87,691.16 which will cover costs for new interview rooms through the Civil Remedies Grant Program.
• Since November 2003, $13.3 million has been forfeited to the Crown under provincial civil forfeiture law.
• Civil forfeiture proceeds have funded approximately $1.2 million in compensation to direct victims of unlawful activity and $5.7 million in grants to law enforcement agencies from funds remaining after victims have been compensated.
