Attorney General Provides Funds For New Equipment To Help Police Prevent Unlawful Activities

The North Bay Police Service will soon have new GPS equipment and a wireless video camera system to help monitor higher risk areas, prevent unlawful activity and protect the community.

The new equipment was purchased with assistance from the Attorney General’s Civil Remedies Grant Program.

This grant program, created under the Civil Remedies Act, allows for money to be taken out of the hands of wrongdoers and used to assist victims of unlawful activity or to prevent unlawful activity.

• The North Bay Police Service is receiving $47,428 for this new equipment through the Civil Remedies Grant Program.
• Since November 2003, $13.3 million has been forfeited to the Crown under provincial civil forfeiture law. 
• Civil forfeiture proceeds have funded approximately $1.2 million in compensation to direct victims of unlawful activity and $5.7 million in grants to law enforcement agencies from funds remaining after victims have been compensated.
