The province has appointed a new judge to the Ontario Court of Justice. Chief Justice Annemarie E. Bonkalo has assigned Madam Justice Esther Rosenberg to preside in Peterborough, effective April 28, 2010.
Madam Justice Esther Rosenberg was called to the Bar in 1990. As an associate with Kelly, Zuly, Greenway, Bruce in Oshawa from 1991 to 1998, she practiced in many areas of law including criminal, family, corporate commercial and general civil litigation. In 1998 she became a partner at Rosenberg, Pringle, focusing her practice on criminal trial litigation. She has represented clients at all levels of court, with an emphasis on representing young people, disadvantaged people and persons with mental health disabilities. As an active member of the legal community, Madam Justice Rosenberg previously served as director of the Criminal Lawyers' Association, president, director and secretary for the Durham Region Law Association, and sat on the executive of the County and District Law Presidents' Association. She has also been involved in many other professional committees and organizations including the Alliance for Sustainable Legal Aid, the Public Legal Education Committee and the Criminal Bench and Bar Committee for the Ontario Court of Justice in Durham Region.
