New Case Management Master Appointed To Ottawa

A new case management master has been appointed to the Superior Court of Justice in Ottawa, effective March 24, 2010.

Mr. Pierre E. Roger was called to the Bar in 1991, and specializes in civil litigation and health law. Mr. Roger graduated from the University of Ottawa and has been a partner in the firm Borden Ladner Gervais since 1997. Mr. Roger specializes in health law, professional negligence and medical malpractice issues and is an instructor for the civil procedure section of the Bar Admission Course of the Law Society of Upper Canada (Ottawa).

Case management masters help judges manage caseloads by presiding at various kinds of proceedings including case and settlement conferences. They work to reduce the time required to process a civil trial by ensuring that cases proceed according to prescribed timelines.

The case management process gives parties an opportunity to discuss issues so that trial resources can be focused where they are most needed. It also allows early court intervention to promote the resolution of disputes or to bring cases to trial in a timely manner.
