Two New Judges Appointed To The Ontario Court Of Justice

Two new judges have been appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice effective October 14, 2009.

Justice Patrick James Boucher was called to the Bar in 1998. Since then he has worked as a partner with Bourgeault Brunelle Boucher.  He has represented clients in child protection, custody, access and support matters, and as an agent of the Office of the Children’s Lawyer, he has represented the interests of children in numerous family law matters.  He has acted as per diem criminal and family law duty counsel, duty counsel in bail court and has represented clients in criminal matters in both the Ontario and Superior Courts of Justice.  He has also served as director of Clinique Juridique Grand-Nord Legal Clinic, a community based legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario.  In addition, Justice Boucher has worked in civil litigation and has assisted clients in wills and estates, as well as real estate. As an active member of his community, Justice Boucher has been a volunteer coach with the Kapuskasing Minor Hockey Association.  He was the founding Chair of the Local Northern Ontario School of Medicine Group in Kapuskasing and a member of the Kapuskasing and District Professional Health Care Recruitment Committee.  Chief Justice Annemarie E. Bonkalo has assigned Justice Boucher to preside in Cochrane.

Justice Jean Legault was called to the Bar in 1990.  He worked as a barrister for Addelman, Edelson & Meagher and was also managing partner and a barrister with Meagher & Legault before becoming a sole practitioner and part-time contract associate with Burke-Robertson LLP in 2001.  His practice focused on criminal and administrative law as well as civil and estate litigation in both official languages.  Justice Legault was also a per diem assistant Crown attorney for L’Orignal, Cornwall, Barrie and Lindsay.  He has represented clients at all levels of court in Ontario.  He has been a member of the Ontario Legal Aid Committee in Ottawa and has served as criminal review counsel with the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic.  He has been a member of the L'Association des juristes d'expression française de l'Ontario, the County of Carleton Law Association and the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa since 1990.  Justice Legault has lectured on evidence, search and seizure for the federal law enforcement officers’ investigative course and taught French common law at the University of Ottawa.  Through his involvement with the Ontario Justice Education Network, he has helped high school students and teachers learn more about the justice system.  Chief Justice Annemarie E. Bonkalo has assigned Justice Legault to preside in L’Orignal.
