McGuinty Government Calls For Award Nominations During Victims Awareness Week

Ontario is calling for nominations for awards that honour the accomplishments of people who help and support victims of crime.

Nominations for the Attorney General's Victim Services Awards of Distinction will be accepted from now until September 18, 2009. Both individuals and groups in Ontario may be nominated by any person or organization in the province.

The awards will recognize excellence and exceptional achievement in any of the following:

  • Victims and other individuals personally impacted by crime who have raised the profile of victims' issues in the province
  • Service providers who deliver exceptional services to victims of crime
  • Field practitioners who develop and implement innovative victim service programs and projects
  • Volunteers who give of their time and personal resources to help victims
  • Youth who dedicate time and effort to support victims in their communities.

QUICK FACTS

  • April 26 - May 2 is National Victims of Crime Awareness Week.
  • Nominations will be reviewed by a selection panel consisting of members of the victim services community, staff from the Ministry of the Attorney General and members of the Office for Victims of Crime.
  • The awards program was established in 2007. It recognizes outstanding accomplishments and helps ensure that local victim services agencies know about, and learn from, the successes of exemplary individuals and organizations.
