McGuinty Government Invests In London Victim Safety Project
Ontario is supporting a new justice initiative designed to better protect victims of domestic violence in London.
This project is part of a province-wide joint initiative between the Ministry of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. The project supports and protects victims of violence by allowing for quick identification of risk factors to enhance safety.
The project will be funded through a Victim Safety Project grant of $149,000.
The project will involve a partnership of five agencies:
Under the Victim Safety Project, grants are available to municipal and First Nations police services that are partnering with not-for-profit, community-based victim service agencies.
"This local project, funded through the Victim Safety Project grants, will provide protection for victims of violent crime who are at greatest risk. The government is proud to support innovative solutions developed by communities, for communities to keep women safe."
- Chris Bentley, Attorney General
"These initiatives address the need for victims of crime and domestic abuse to feel secure in their homes and protected in their communities."
- Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services
"Partnerships between police and community agencies will help ensure a more coordinated response to women abuse. Abused women will be safer and better supported as a result of these local initiatives."
- Deb Matthews, Minister Responsible for Women's Issues
