News Release
April 17, 2009
Families dealing with woman abuse in London's Muslim community will benefit from a new program to better support victims and help break the cycle of violence.
A grant of $80,000 will allow the Muslim Family Resource Centre for Social Support and Integration to begin providing immediate crisis assistance and appropriate referrals to services for the Muslim community.
This project will build on the success of the internationally acclaimed Muslim Family Safety Project, initiated in 2004 by Dr. Mohammed Baobaid in London, Ontario to reach out to abused women.
"We're improving justice for Ontarians by providing immediate crisis assistance for victims of domestic violence. This initiative has been made possible through the leadership and advocacy of the Muslim community."
– Chris Bentley, Attorney General
"I'm excited at the prospect of getting started on this project, to encourage members of the Muslim community to participate, and for victims to find support in a manner that feels safe and responsive to their needs."
– Dr. Mohammed Baobaid, Executive Director, Muslim Family Resource Centre for Social Support and Integration
