February 13, 2009
His Honour, Justice Robert J. Sharpe, is the recipient of the 2008 David W. Mundell Medal.
The Mundell Medal honours those who have made a distinguished contribution to legal writing.
Justice Sharpe’s writings include several books on legal history as well as the law today. His texts on Injunctions and Specific Performance, the Law of Habeus Corpus, and Charter Litigation are widely consulted by lawyers and judges alike as reliable references to the law and underlying legal principles. Although Justice Sharpe began his legal career as a practicing lawyer, he soon became a well-respected law professor and eventually the dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Toronto from 1990-1995. He was appointed in 1995 to what is now the Superior Court of Justice, and has been on the Court of Appeal since 1999.
"I am honoured to recognize this year’s Mundell Medal recipient, Justice Sharpe, a distinguished author and scholar," said Attorney General Chris Bentley. "Justice Sharpe has consistently produced an outstanding collection of legal literature of the highest scholarship."
