Attorney General Thanks Outgoing Director James Cornish For His Leadership
Ian D. Scott has been appointed as the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Director effective October 16, 2008, replacing James Cornish whose term expires on October 15, 2008.
Called to the Bar in 1983, Scott has practiced exclusively in criminal law and administrative law. Over the span of his career, Scott has acted as both Crown and defence counsel in cases involving police officers under the Criminal Code and at Police Services Act hearings and appeals. He has also appeared as counsel at Coroner's inquests.
Scott has written on civilian oversight, demonstrating an excellent understanding of the field.
"Ian Scott's impressive legal career and broad range of criminal law experience will serve the SIU well in moving forward," said Attorney General Chris Bentley. "I'd like to thank James Cornish for his leadership and commitment to thorough and balanced civilian oversight over the past four and a half years."
