Attorney General To Award Mundell Medal

Dean Of York University's Osgoode Hall Law School Honoured

TORONTO - Attorney General Chris Bentley will present a legal writing award to Dean Patrick Monahan of York University's Osgoode Hall Law School.

The David W. Mundell Medal honours those who have made a distinguished contribution to the law in legal writing.

This award is named after the late David W. Mundell, a leading constitutional lawyer and the first director of the Ministry of the Attorney General's Constitutional Law Branch in 1976. It has been awarded since 1986.

"The Mundell Medal recognizes outstanding legal writing, and I am honoured that I will be presenting it to such a deserving author and scholar," said Bentley.

Patrick Monahan has taught at Osgoode Hall since 1982 and for many years was the Director of York University's Centre for Public Law and Public Policy. He was appointed Dean of the Law School in 2003 and has recently been re-appointed for another five-year term. During the negotiations of the Meech Lake Accord, he was an advisor to Premier David Peterson and Attorney General Ian Scott. He has written numerous widely acclaimed books and articles on public and constitutional law.

The presentation will take place on Monday, February 4 at 12:00 p.m. at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, South Building, room 718, during the annual continuing legal education conference organized by the Ontario Bar Association.
