TORONTO — Attorney General Michael Bryant today announced the appointment of Elaine Isabel Deluzio and Wendy Barbara Malcolm as provincial judges to the Ontario Court of Justice.
"I am confident that the many accomplishments of these distinguished individuals will serve them well as judges of the Ontario Court of Justice," said Bryant.
Madam Justice Deluzio was called to the Bar in 1987 and since 2002 has been an assistant Crown attorney in Hastings County. For 14 years she was in private practice in Belleville, primarily in family and children's law but her practice also included criminal law. In 1992 she was appointed by the Office of the Children's Lawyer to represent children involved in custody disputes and child welfare matters. She has been co-lead of the provincial domestic violence court program in Belleville and Bancroft, and a family law mediator. Madam Justice Deluzio has been a board member of the Three Oaks Foundation for Abused Women and an advisory member of the John Howard Society's Needs Assessment Advisory Committee to identify court support programs needed for people in conflict with the law.
Madam Justice Malcolm was called to the Bar in 1982 and has practised law for 23 years with O'Flynn Weese Tausendfreund LLP in Belleville. Over the last 15 years, Madam Justice Malcom dedicated most of her practice to family law. In 1987, she was appointed as an agent by the Official Guardian's Office, now the Office of the Children's Lawyer, to represent children in child protection, and custody and access disputes. Since 1993, she has also been a deputy judge of the Small Claims Court. Madam Justice Malcolm has been a member of the Ontario Deputy Judges Association, the Area Committee for the Ontario Legal Aid Plan in Belleville, and the Ontario Association for Family Mediation.
Chief Justice Brian W. Lennox has assigned Madam Justice Deluzio to preside in Belleville effective December 6, 2006 and Madam Justice Malcolm to preside in Belleville, effective November 29, 2006.
Bryant has appointed 61 judges since the McGuinty government was sworn in on October 23, 2003.
