Attorney General Announces Cobourg Judicial Appointment

TORONTO — Attorney General Michael Bryant today announced the appointment of Robert Graydon as a provincial judge to the Ontario Court of Justice, effective July 12, 2006.

"Mr. Justice Graydon has accumulated a broad range of expertise throughout his impressive legal career," said Bryant. "This experience will serve him well in his new position on the bench."

Called to the Bar in 1974, Mr. Justice Graydon has been a litigator for over 30 years, primarily in civil and criminal matters. He has also been a part-time federal prosecutor and has acted for what was then named the Official Guardian. He has been a member of the Hastings County Trial Management Committee and the area committee of Legal Aid Ontario in Hastings County, where he also participated in the Duty Counsel Mentor Program.

Mr. Justice Graydon has served in several capacities as a council member for Deseronto. He has been a long-standing speaker on various criminal justice issues for the Hastings County Board of Education and a guest lecturer for various local organizations. He has served as a founding and executive member of both the Quinte Criminal Lawyers' Association and the Countryview Group Home for Youths.

Chief Justice Brian W. Lennox has assigned Mr. Justice Graydon to preside in Cobourg.

Bryant has appointed 51 judges since the McGuinty government was sworn in on October 23, 2003.
