TORONTO — Attorney General Michael Bryant today announced the appointment of Lloyd Dean as a provincial judge to the Ontario Court of Justice, effective October 5, 2005.

"Mr. Justice Dean has a wide range of experience in both the legal field and in his community work," said Bryant. "This expertise will serve him well in his new position on the bench."

Called to the Bar in 1992, Mr. Justice Dean joined the law firm Sutts, Strosberg LLP in Windsor. From 1993-1999, he was a teacher for the Greater Essex County District School Board and a part-time assistant Crown attorney. In 1999, he became an assistant Crown attorney in Essex County, prosecuting criminal and provincial matters. He has also worked as a federal prosecutor dealing with cases under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Elections Act.

Mr. Justice Dean has been a presenter and lecturer on various legal topics at numerous secondary schools and community organizations. He has been a mentor for the Change Your Future Program of the Greater Essex County District School Board, has served on the board of directors of the Windsor Regional Hospital and has also sat as a member of the Equity Committee of the Greater Essex County District School Board.

Chief Justice Brian W. Lennox has assigned Mr. Justice Dean to preside in Windsor/Chatham.

Bryant has appointed 33 judges since the McGuinty government was sworn in on October 23, 2003.
