Attorney General Announces Justice Of The Peace Appointments

Attorney General Michael Bryant today announced the appointments of three full-time, presiding justices of the peace. As well, four part-time, non-presiding justices of the peace have been made full-time, presiding justices of the peace.

Justice of the Peace Kathy-Lou Johnson has been a property and business manager for the past 11 years. She has also served as a municipal and provincial prosecutor and as a trainer for the Ministry of the Attorney General’s Provincial Offences Act transfer project.

A provincial prosecutor for over 15 years, Justice of the Peace Felicitas M. Camposano also has experience working as a courtroom clerk and as domestic violence court coordinator.

Justice of the Peace Milan Then has been a member of the Immigration and Refugee Board for the past 10 years. He has also served as a senior investigator with the province’s Special Investigations Unit and worked in the office of the Ombudsman of Ontario.

Justices of the Peace Kathleen Bryant, Isaac Condo, Daisy Hoppe and Basil Marchand have been promoted from a part-time, non-presiding justice of the peace to full-time, presiding justice of the peace.

Associate Chief Justice, Coordinator of Justices of the Peace, Donald A. Ebbs has assigned Justices of the Peace Johnson, Camposano, and Then, to Kitchener, Newmarket and Toronto respectively. Justices of the Peace Bryant, Condo, Hoppe and Marchand continue to be assigned in Sault Ste. Marie, London, Dryden and Cornwall respectively.

A non-presiding justice of the peace issues search warrants, presides over bail hearings and issues subpoenas. A presiding justice of the peace, in addition to these duties, presides over matters under the Provincial Offences Act, including Highway Traffic Act offences.
