New Judge To Preside In Pembroke

TORONTO — Attorney General Michael Bryant today announced the appointment of Robert Selkirk to the Ontario Court of Justice, effective December 29, 2004.

“I am confident that Mr. Justice Selkirk will contribute significantly to the administration of justice,” said Bryant. “His appointment demonstrates our government’s ongoing investment in the justice system and commitment to stronger, safer communities.”

Called to the Bar in 1984, Mr. Justice Selkirk has been in private practice for 20 years. In 1998, he was certified as a specialist in criminal law by the Law Society of Upper Canada. He is a committee member for an Ottawa drug treatment centre.

Mr. Justice Selkirk has presented papers on various criminal topics to the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa-Carleton. He was vice-president of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa-Carleton and an executive of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa-Carleton.

Chief Justice Brian W. Lennox has assigned Mr. Justice Selkirk to preside in Pembroke.

Bryant has appointed 27 judges since the McGuinty government was sworn in October 23, 2003.
