ATTORNEY GENERAL ANNOUNCES JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT

New Judge To Preside In Napanee

TORONTO — Attorney General Michael Bryant today announced the appointment of Geoffrey Griffin to the Ontario Court of Justice, effective September 8, 2004.

"Mr. Justice Griffin's broad range of experience will enable him to contribute significantly to the bench," said Bryant. "His appointment illustrates our government's continuing investment in the justice system."

Called to the bar in 1984, Mr. Justice Griffin was in private practice for 20 years in criminal, family and civil litigation. He has been a member of the Unified Family Court Committee and the Ontario Court of Justice Committee in Napanee.

Mr. Justice Griffin was on the board of directors of the Lennox and Addington Addiction Services and the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital Foundation. He is a member of the Criminal Lawyers' Association.

Chief Justice Brian W. Lennox has assigned Mr. Justice Griffin to preside in Napanee.

Bryant has appointed 25 judges since the McGuinty government was sworn in October 23, 2003.
