The Court of Appeal for Ontario is a superior court of record, which is separate.

The Superior Court of Justice is a superior court of record and a superior trial court.
The Superior Court of Justice has both criminal and civil jurisdiction, which includes family and estates matters. It has all the jurisdiction, power and authority historically exercised by courts of common law and equity in England and Ontario, and not just by statute.
The Superior Court of Justice sits as an appellate court in certain family, provincial offences, and summary conviction appeal matters from the Ontario Court of Justice.
The Superior Court of Justice also has three branches:
