About the Data

Care should be used when interpreting the charge-based information provided on this website. This data does not reflect crime rates or incidents within a particular community. The data tracked on this website provides charge-based information, not crime rates, individual incidents or cases. These statistics include cases where more than one charge is laid against the same person as a result of a single incident, as well as cases where several individuals are charged as a result of a single incident. Another factor to consider includes the possibility for transfer of charges before the court from another jurisdiction or community.

If you are interested in crime rates or crime rate analysis this information can be obtained from the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics. www.statcan.ca/bsolc/english/bsolc?catno=85F0033M.
