A "Guardian of Property" is someone who is appointed to manage the financial affairs of a person who is mentally incapable of doing so for himself or herself. A Guardian may be appointed by the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee (OPGT) or by the court.
Two forms are needed for your application to become a Guardian for someone whose financial decisions are currently being made by the OPGT.
Both the application forms must be filled in carefully, legibly, and with as much detail as possible, to avoid delays in processing your application. When properly completed they should clearly explain to the Public Guardian and Trustee how you plan to manage the financial affairs of your incapable relative.
Only certain people are eligible to apply to replace the PGT. Please contact the Client Representative for the incapable person. If you don't know who that is, contact the office. (PDF - 4 pages)
