For the 2007 year, 14 arbitration reports were submitted. For 2008, there were 43 arbitration reports submitted. For 2009 there were 29 reports submitted. As of May 31, 2010, 2 reports have been submitted for 2010. In total, 88 reports have been received.
As of May 31, 2010, 28 family arbitrators have submitted reports.
The reported arbitration awards cover a range of common family law issues, including support, custody/access, sale/possession of a matrimonial home and property division. Less common issues that were arbitrated include life insurance requirements, trusts claims, advances on equalization payments and damages.
The majority of the arbitration awards appear to be final, although many are subject to periodic review. Only a minority of the reports indicate that the award is interim.
Hearing times for the arbitrations ranged from none (if the award was decided based on submissions only) to 15 days. The average hearing length is 3 days.
