Articling and Summer Law Student Opportunities

As the largest law "firm" in Ontario, the Government of Ontario offers articling and summer law students one of the most diverse legal environments in which to work. The Ministry of the Attorney General employs lawyers across the Ontario government providing the advantages of the diversity and resources of a large law practice and, at the same time, the benefits of many small boutique practices.

The Government of Ontario employs more than 1700 lawyers, approximately 100 articling students and approximately 70 summer law students. We specialize in almost every area of substantive law including constitutional, criminal, health, environmental, family, tax, corporate, commercial, labour and employment law.

Being a student with the Ministry of the Attorney General offers exposure to the workings of government and the process of law reform. Articling students are directly involved in important and meaningful work in the public interest. It is excellent training for a career in law and the variety and quality of our work is truly unparalleled!

In addition to an orientation program for all articling students each September several other educational seminars are designed and provided exclusively for ministry students throughout the year. Students receive guidance, support and feedback from supervising lawyers committed to ensuring that their work with the ministry is an effective learning experience.
