Ontario's Aboriginal Justice Strategy is a collaborative effort between the Province of Ontario and First Nations, Inuit and Métis people to provide fair, coordinated, effective and responsive criminal justice services to all Aboriginal people - men, women and youth in Ontario.
Based on the principles of inclusiveness, cooperation and shared responsibility, the Aboriginal Justice Strategy was designed, developed and implemented in partnership with Aboriginal people living in Ontario and reflects a holistic approach to justice that promotes healing of Aboriginal people and communities.
In order to increase access to justice for First Nations people across Ontario to ensure that criminal justice and victim services meet the needs of communities and that the services provided respect cultural differences, all programs and initiatives under the strategy are based on, and support, five key objectives:
